Walt Whitman's liberal language enables readers to connect to his poetry and grasp its essential meanings. "Song at Sunset" communicates a powerful embrace of God within oneself. He begins with the prophecy coming to a halt at a certain point in time which questions life and death. The poet acts as the instruments and also the singer of the instructor while embraced with this divine spirit which resembles the presence of God singing within him. As many dictionaries may say, the soul exists as an immaterial element within oneself. The singing of the soul imbued with perfection cannot have a meaning given by mankind. Life after death resumes after the last ray of sunlight sets and the evening night rises and resumes once again just as it always has. Whitman still seeks perfection despite the day or the troubles at hand.
